Mint Street is owned by Southwark Council. It sits on the site of the Evelina Children's Hospital, which stood here 1869-1976 and tackled the high rate of childhood diseases prevalent in the crowded streets of Bankside. Over a decade ago, the park was a semi-derelict open space, with a reputation for crime and anti-social behaviour. Working with the council and local people Bankside Open Spaces Trust worked to transform the park. Large planting beds were added, including a rockery and loggery, to create a beautiful space for both local people and local wildlife to enjoy. Once a year the volunteer-run Mint Street Festival takes place celebrating music and culture created by the inspiring local community. With volunteers, Bankside Open Spaces Trust tend the planting in the park. They strive to ensure that Mint Street Park is a visual feast year round, providing green respite from the busy urban grind.
