The Lower Crane Valley is a linked network of open spaces along the River Crane. These open spaces include areas of grassland, heathland, wetland, woodland and scrub and provide an important corridor for wildlife. The area has a rich industrial and archaeological history. There are places to explore, play, exercise and learn in, plus playgrounds for children to enjoy. Semi deciduous woodland covers much of this section of Crane Park along with grasslands, small islands, reed beds and wetlands. The park is managed for wildlife and has a rich history. The "Shot Tower", the only remaining building from the Hounslow Gunpowder Mills and Butts Farm estate was once a model farm known as Hanworth Farms. London Wildlife Trust manages Crane Park Island as a nature reserve with an education centre in the tower.
